Dan and I are starting to test shoot today. Testing out our cameras, audio, and lighting. If all goes well we might have an interview with myself up soon.

Learned alot about what our cameras can and cant do. And that im horrid on camera lol. Dont think we got anything that is usable but it was good to set up and test all the equipment we currently have. Will do it again in two weeks. This time with Jeff and his camera.

The main issue (besides the bad interview I did) was the quality of the video. It was far to grainy for my liking. I have an olympus e-m5 II and Dan has a Sony a6300. Both are great for photography but for Video it isnt up to par. To mush grain in both.

So im looking into buying a pro video camera. They arn't cheap. I'm looking at either the Canon c100 or c100 mark ii. These are old but do 1080p just fine. And cost between 2k and 4k each. Or go with a Sony a7s ii. But thats expensive also.

I did try out an adobe plugin called Neat Video that cleaned up the grain but it would be a bitch to do on everything we shoot to get a clean image.

You could probably rent a decent video camera for ~$100/week. I mean, that's not cheap but in comparison to buying it would just be a fraction providing you don't expect 3 months of filming.

I looked into renting and since ill be filming at different times and different locations it makes more sense to own and resell after if needed.

After a few days of weighing my options and budget I ended up ordering the Sony a7 iii. Cost 2600 before taxes. Im going to sell off my current Olympus Camera/lens and a few other stuff I have laying around to pay for it. I should have it by next weekend to do our second test shoot.

the Sony a7 iii is a full frame mirrorless camera. excellent image quality but like all dslr's it has a record limit of 29 minutes. So will need to shoot the interviews in half hour segments. Which shouldn't be a problem. Having a short break mid way interview isnt a bad thing.

A little update on the test shoot from Saturday. I got some good footage that I think can be used for a new teaser trailer. I was interviewed talking about the concept of the film. Even without the new camera the video quality came out really nice. The sound is so much better with the Rode shotgun mic. It still needs a little work in post to sound great but so far so good.

Ill likely have something up on the site/youtube in the next week.

So the last few weeks I been hard at work on editing a Promo Video for the Doc. Something that will explain the concept of the film and show a bit of an example of what it will look like. I'm hoping to drop this video this coming weekend. Stay tuned.
